hey guys
for the following dp:
identify and describe the main features of epidemiology using lung cancer as an example
i wrote
"Epidemiology is the study of the prevalence of dieases in society.
There are several features of epidemiology which are significant.
The first of these features is the collation of data and statistics from a large sample space over
extended periods of time. This is done so that any potential trends in disease occurance may be
detected, but also so that the influence of chance or probability is minimised in the collected
data, that is, so that it is more reliable.
Another important feature of epidemiological studies is that information and statistics are acquired from several locations in further narrowing down the potential causes of a disease and establishing patterns.
Finally, most of the information in epidemiology must be analysed and used in conjunction with known factors in the certain environment.
The link between smoking and lung cancer was not discovered until the 1950s when accurate and reliable epidemiological studies were conducted. Results from such studies and a 4 year study by the American Cancer Society encompassing 1.2 million people all over America indicated that almost 83% of all lung cancer cases were smoking related with smokers over 22 times more likely to contract the diease than non-smokers."
