I wrote some formulas with the equation editor in MS Word, but when i try to convert it to PDF, it gets an error. Has anyone else done this successfully? does anyone know why it doesn't work?

Well it wasn't a very helpful error - "Adobe PDF printer failed to create the PDF file."

Oh, crap :( I just figured out that it doesn't convert any word documents- with or without equations.
I am using Office XP, and Acrobat 6 Proffesional.

Thanks, but don't worry - after about 3 restarts (computer kept freezing!? ) it finally works :D .Thanks anyway. Sorry for wasting your time :(

BTW, if i use some font that i downloaded in a PDF, does the viewer also have to have that font??

Nah, the good thing about PDF is that it maintains everything - font, layout etc.

Most PDF makers out there are programs which create a dummy printer which is used to convert Word docs into PDFs. You then use the print command on the doc and the dummy printer to produce your PDF. That's why the PDF maintains all your fonts, colours, formatting, etc, it's like a printed copy on your computer.
