just for the record there is nothing in the hsc english syllabus which says that you MUST do more than 1 supplementary text.
for my trial i received 12/15 for my essay which I am quite happy with. again it depends on how much detail you go into your only supplementary text.
the idea of capping essays cause u only used one supp is total bs.

ok but what happens in the hsc when the question asks 'refer to your prescribed texts, and atleast two of your own choice?'

it usually says, "two of your own choice" or "a variety of related texts". Something to that effect.

this is straight from the 2003 paper:
I your answer refer to your prescribe text, ONE from the prescribed stimulus booklet, and at least ONE other related text of your own choosing.

2002: exactly the same

both hint at having more than one sup text.
its like in science exams eg you might like to draw a diagram = draw a diagram

all my school exams have asked for TWO of your own choosing

Maybe I'll just stick a paragraph in about the Lord of the Rings or something. I still don't think its that much of a big deal though.

The key words are 'at least'. They are looking for more than one and will mark accordingly; I doubt you will get top marks by writing about only one related text .. it does not show them your ability to extract meaning from texts NOT prescribed to you (ie not studied in depth in class at school)
