Ok i know that essay paragraphs involve something similar to this:

Point
Example
Effect

But when i write my essays, i feel it seems to jump all over the place and not flow properly. Also i put down a topic sentence or thesis statement and don't seem to have enough to talk/ back up it

Any tips?

For starters, only use a thesis statement that you can and will back up. That is the entire point of the essay. Remember that your topic sentence links your thesis to the actual text, so only use a thesis that you WILL back up.

I find that writing about the text chronilogically helps a lot with making it flow. Usually it's about how a protagonist changes to do jsut that - show how there were initially and then contrast that with how they are after they have developed/changed/grown etc.

Planning your essay would help a lot in your case - it will the essay flow more and you won't "jump all over the place" because you'll know what you have to say.

Any tips?

A good way to prevent your essay from getting all muddled up is to write an essay plan. Figure out what you will put in your essay/paragraphs and then figure out where it will go.

This way you can move things around easily to get a good flow in your essay before you start writing, it saves having to move and re-write large chunks of text when you figure out certain ideas would work better in different parts of the essay.

write a strong thesis...pick out a revelant section of the text eg. a scene and state it, then back it up with a quote stating a technique how the author supports your thesis...then state the effect tying how it supports your thesis. (SEE - State, Example, Effect)
