Hi all

I know this sounds dumb, but I really have no idea.

English isn't one of my favourite subjects, and I was just wondering if you ever had to write any essays/extended pieces of writing in any of the subjects in a BE (I am thinking of doing electrical engineering).

What are the main types of assignments that you need to do?

Thanks! :)

Expect heaps of report writing.

They're not like essays though, with reports you have to say what you want to in with the fewest words possible. You still have to use the passive voice, and have a clear structure, but you can use subheadings, tables, diagrams, dot points, equations etc. Anything goes in a report as long as you get your point across. Your first few report assignments will look pretty scary cos they'll have stuff like '30 page maximum' on them.

The other forms of assessment you can expect are tests and open-ended design problems.

You also have to write a thesis report in your final yr.
