What catalysts should be used and why? :S

Dont know about what catalysts, but they're probably used simply to speed (like all catalysts) up the polymerisation...

in gas phase process, you don't have a catalyst, just an initiator...

in ziegler natta process, you use trialkylaluminium and titanium tetra (?) chloride

Peroxide or oxygen gas catalyst for LDPE

Titanium(III) chloride and trialkylaluminium compounds for HDPE
(i.e. the Zieglar-Natta process as xiao1985 said)
