Just looking at last years HSC, and you had to construct a spreadsheet..

So, just wondering a list of relevent formula's and how they work...
If, min, max, average, sum.

Can someone please provide an example for each + any others that might be questioned..

yeah i need this help to. but mate the probability of them putting a spreadsheet for tuesday's exam is very low. its followed a pattern from the specimen paper. one year spreadsheet, one year next. 2005 is the year for it not to come up!. so pray

there not that hard it mostly just creating a template of a spreadsheet and puting a total
If u know ur basic formulas e.g sum=b5:b7 you should be fine

Well min max and avg won't be used in this option... if it all

The Syntax for: if is =IF(condition, if result is true, if result is false)
min is =MIN(number1, number2)
max is =MAX(number1, number2)
mina nd max can be treated like SUM
An Example of IF:
=IF(A2 < B3, A2 - B3, B3 - A2)
let A2 be 20 and B3 be 10 and the statement is written in A4
A4 will display 10

There have been some pretty crappy spreadsheets in the HSC in the past (well, crappy if you want to do it properly), so the best thing to do is just to experiment with Excel and look at the more specialised operators, such as LOOKUP and IF. LOOKUP is useful when you're allocating values for something.

Example: 2004 question 26. b)
For the 'experience' part, a lookup table can be used which looks something like...

=== A | B
--------------
10 | 1 | 10
--------------
11 | 5 | 20
--------------
12 | 10 | 30
--------------

And your formula will look something like:
=LOOKUP([number of years worked cell],A10:A12,B10:B12)

since the standard formula is defined (informally) as:
=LOOKUP([value to look up],[look up range],[result range])
