HSC
2013
Hello all, our names are Jason Kwong and Angus Hanley and we’re offering exclusive three and four unit mathematics seminar-style tuition. The series of seminars will be small, 6-9 person groups with both of us imparting our specialist knowledge about the HSC Mathematics Course. We understand the nature of the mathematics exams as well as its difficulties, finding that more often than not the problem people face is not knowing the content but how to apply it to the material that you are presented with. Too often students come out of maths exams feeling that all the time they have spent learning the material has gone to waste. Having been through the course as both tutors and students, we feel that not only our skill but also our experience will help you to be able to adapt to both the HSC curveball questions as well as the general content that will make the difference in your final ATAR. While we have heard many students declare to themselves, “I’ll just do ten past papers a day after the trials”, HSC examiners often go out of their way to set papers that are markedly different to previous HSC exams and trials. It is vital that you develop the appropriate mindset and approaches to the problems at hand, which have mathematical smokescreens that disguise the concepts you have practised in class.

What we provide:
• Preparatory problems to be completed before the seminars so that we can focus on the important elements of each topic, so that you can get the most out of the seminars (DON'T WORRY if you cant solve all of them. They are meant to be difficult and we will go through them in the seminar).
• A supplementary list of problems to go through during the seminars and afterwards in your own leisure
• Marking and solutions to all the questions provided
• Marking of any past papers that you choose to provide to us, free of charge
• Access to a Facebook group in which you can post questions for us and your fellow students
• Ways to avoid common mistakes, which are often an indication of a cluttered mindset rather than carelessness
• A deeper understanding of the mathematical principles and the various approaches needed to solve the challenging questions
• A more “interesting, enjoyable and challenging” approach to teaching , as required by the official Board of Studies Four Unit Mathematics syllabus

For these sessions we will need you to bring your own paper, writing utensils, calculators as well as your interest. Participation is expected and required, as it will benefit you to get the most out of the limited time that we have until the HSC.

Our credentials
Angus:
ATAR 99.80
MX1 99, MX2 100 (6th in the state)

Jason:
ATAR 99.80
MX1 99, MX2 98
Silver medal at 2013 International Maths Olympiad in Colombia
Bronze medal in 2012 in Argentina

We were both scholarship students at Sydney Grammar School, both receiving numerous prizes in both the Westpac and UNSW Mathematics Competitions. We are still actively interested in mathematics, completing first year courses at the University of Sydney and maintain a passion for this field, which is simultaneously complex and elegant.

Location:
Library Meeting Room 1 at Chatswood Library (we will include a Parramatta session if enough people indicate interest)

Starting from Saturday 30 August, we will be conducting our September Seminars. Our three unit sessions will be on Monday and Thursday from 5-7pm and four unit sessions on Wednesday from 5-7pm and Saturday from 3-5pm. Expressions of interest should be directed to either of us via email at sepseminar@hotmail.com . Please in your emails include your preferred times, your level of mathematics, your gauge in how well your going as well as what you hope to get out of the course.
We hope to hear from you soon!

Hi do you guys offer contest math tutoring? If so I would like to pay some substantial amount of money to receive tutoring from silver-medal winner of IMO on contest mathematics like the open-to-public AMC. (I'm not interested in HSC tutoring at all.)
