Depends on the difficulty of your extension 1 exams compared to your other subjects. Your school's past performances can give such indication

Your assessment marks don't mean a thing. It's your rank that counts.

How important is rank? So in the end internal marks don't matter at all or do they just contribute slightly?

They matter in the sense that...

the bigger the gap between you and the person ahead of you --> the worse it is for you when it comes to moderation and determining your ASSESSMENT mark (which is 50% of your HSC mark).
