Hay guys,

My laptop only has 60gigs on it, and it is superfull ... I was thinking about buying an external hard-disk from ebay. All I want is like 60-80gigs ... any advice about what the best to get is (in terms of price and brand?).

Also,
1. what does "Form Factor: 3.5'' -Desktop " mean? Is my laptop (Presario B3800) compatible?
2. can u actully install and run prgroams from an external hard disk? Or is it just for putting stuff like pictures and videos?

Cheers,
Ac

"Form Factor: 3.5'' -Desktop"
Desktop hard drives are 3.5 inches across, whilst laptop hard drives are 2.5 inches across, so this particular one is a desktop hard drive. However, if you buy an external hard drive, it comes with a connection (usually USB) to hook into your computer. Once it's in, you can install programs and the like to it (just select at the install prompt).

Since it's going to be used as an external for a laptop, stick with 2.5". 3.5" might be cheaper and have much more space, but requires an external power adaptor, while 2.5" can draw straight from USB. It's up to you really, whether you need that mobility.

Does anyone use an external harddisk to play games and stuff like that? Is there a noticable difference through the usb in terms of lag, etc?

i don't believe you'll notice a great difference, perhaps in loading peroid, but shouldn't be noticeable in game play. If you're unsure, get a firewire 800 compatable external harddrive (though you'd need a firewire 800 plug in slot or use an expansion card to do this), but as far as i'm aware, it should be fine.

I play most of my games through my external and it runs fine.
