I own a Seagate External Desktop Drive, 1.5 TB, the link below shows what it looks like:

ST315005EXA101-RK Seagate External Desktop 1.5-TB Hard Drive | Seagate

Yesterday I accidentally dropped the hard drive from a moderately low height, approximately 30 cm (or 12 inches). However you could hardly tell that it fell. There are no scratches, dents or marks of any kind to indicate damage. However, since I dropped it, it's stopped working. When I connect it to my laptop, the green light on the hard drive is on, but the hard drive does not show up on the laptop.

It however, makes an annoying beeping sound, identical to the one heard in the following video:

I've been using this external hard drive for about 6-8 months with no problem and I have a lot of important files saved on it, so this is pretty devastating. Catastrophic to say the least. If anyone has ever had a similar experience, can help me in any way whatsoever or simply provide an opinion, that would be most welcome.

So it doesn't work at all when you plug it in? Maybe now's the time to speak to a specialist if you have mission critical data on there.

I'd say it's screwed. I had a Western Digital drive making a similar noise. Didn't drop it, it just died one day, read speeds became really slow. Got it RMA'd and replaced. You probably should look into doing the same.

Sounds like it's stuffed.... and for good. I don't know if the data can be recovered all that well, but it will depend on the extent of the damage to the drive. Now you'll have to download all that pr0n again :(

...Good luck getting your important files!
