hypocrite ishq. You parade on both this thread and the ey thread because of the exclusivity of your offer at ey, along with the other ey offered trainees. Yet you have a go at seremify for having a popularity contest on which firm is better? Everyone should stop being superficial and realise that nothing seperates the big4. Every firm is better for someone else. Although revenue in a way is an indicator of rank, don't you think people in the industry see through that bullshit and give accolades based on the type of deals or the complexity of the clients serviced?
You're right.
i was being a hypocrite.
i admit i was very excited at being offered a position - BUT i think at this stage, its alright if we are a little superficial - basking in our little victories. But, yes, I did get caught up.
i apologise.
But i do not parade.

And i still think its a bit sad, googling company songs. :)

Haha it's all good. I guess it's probably a good thing that we have a bit of pride in our firms though yeh? Better than people who hate their company and so on... As for the theme songs- don't bag it until you hear it... I guarantee you will cringe at least once.

Couldn't help but bump this thread... the irony being that ishq didn't end up taking her cadetship.

Isn't the Big 4 for people who didn't get into:

a proper consulting firm (because they didn't pull enough D's at uni and/or a lack of "people" skills) OR

an investment bank (because they didn't get enough HD's) OR

a corporate law job (because they didn't get the uai to do commerce/law)?

No, it's for people who want to work at a global accounting firm.

I work at a Big 4 because I didn't want to work in an investment bank, don't want to be a management consultant - however I was tossing up whether to do Grad Law (I have the marks), or finish up and start working.

The Big4 firms are all about the people skills and I believe they value it higher than a lot of consulting firms out there.

I had the marks to get into other companies. I chose not to work at an investment bank or a corporate law job, because apart from not having a relevant degree for those areas, I don't have much interest in those areas.

My current role involves both IT and Accounting and is very relevant to the course I did. I'm happy with where I am for now.

Temptation to flame rising.

Some people actually want to work in Audit in a large accounting firm because of the knowledge/training you receive.

And honestly speaking, I'm quite happy with where I am.

I can only imagine what kind of crap you'd say if someone wanted to work in PKF or BDO.

Quoted for truth.

99% of people who disagree are in denial. - And we can see examples of that above.

The irony is that a lot of people who bag out Big4, couldn't make the cut :p

jkjk.

Seriously though, Big4 probably isn't the best/most suitable for everyone; but some people do actually aspire to work there. I wanted to work in Big4 ages ago, and now that I got my chance- I took it.

Not everyone wants a job in consulting, IB or law.

Oh I didn't mean that as an insult to BDO/PKF/mid-tiers.

I was actually implying that if the poster was so shallow minded to think Big4 is only for people who couldn't get into something else, then he might have similarly worthless opinions regarding the large mid-tiers.
