My parents cared more about my HSC marks more than my UAI ranking.....

When they saw i passed physics with a 53, my dad gave me a hug and $50 :haha:.

I work so it was more of a gesture:haha:.

My UAI was 49.55.

I'm happy with it as i was expecting lower.......

They've said i could be for anything as long as it's conserved,so i've only sent bout $900 out of it so far, i usually only use the money i've acually earnt.
I dont think my parents even have $75 000, lol, to me it just seems a crazy figure for a birthday present, but thats just me.

Mine were pretty happy, especially after hearing some other results from my school. Someone I thought would state rank only got 86 and another who I thought would do really well got 53.

Besides, after giving me $75 000 for my birthday, i don't think they have any intention on rewarding me for putting unnecessary stress on myself all year long

Dad: Is that good?

Mum: Whoa. See, bachelor of arts IS below you. You could get into medicine with that right?

UAI: 92.65

my dad wouldnt have the slightest clue on how it's calculated, lol. not as bad as a friend's mum though, when he told her 82 she was like, 'oh, that low huh?'

Right now I'm in HK living with my uncle and aunty
Their school system uses As, Bs (like the British) instead of band 6s and 5s
So I used that terminology so that I could be more easily understood

Me: Uncle I got 4 As and 1 B
Uncle: OHH REALLY WOW YOU'RE SO GOOD 4 As, I'M GOING TO CALL YOUR MUM NOW

I got a UAI of 90.00. They were pretty happy, but after a few hours of discussion about it and what to do about uni my dad said 'well, don't get carried away, it wasn't that good'.

man up? its not that im nervous/anxious about the results, i just dont care.
ill get a letter tomorrow which will be filed away and wont matter when i get a uni acceptance.

the point of not looking at them is that i wont have to look back on exams and make hsc larger then it is.

if im disappointed or satisfied with the results i can still go out happy tonight.
completly agree

They were like "Good job on the results!" for the results.

But when they saw my uai, they said "How the hell did that happen? You got 70's and 80's and u got a UAI of <70 ?", they don't know about how rankings (internal and school rankings) and scaling affects UAI.

Anyway help on:

http://community.boredofstudies.org/844/uai-hsc-marks-class-2008/195359/help-me.html

would be appreciated... Basically:

Should i send a uni my UAC Application Number if i send a letter to the Dean about how much i want to be doing the course/beg for an interview?

Realistically only the father will have the Indian accent. The kid will most likely be home grown, so the kid will have a near perfect Aussie accent.

My mum was at work, so I called her the minute I found out and she burst into tears. I was so stressed yesterday that I wouldn't get the UAI I needed and she was so proud I got above the criteria. =]

We're celebrating tonight, movies perhaps. I dunno. =]

I love my mummy.

Me: Ummm..
Mum: It's reasonable, what do you think?
Me: [silence]
Mum: Actually, its really really good, well done!

.....LMAO
my parents dont really know how its calculated and stuff, but they get the picture that I did pretty good, and are very proud of me.
