Most releases that I was looking forward to this year have been quite disappointing (Dream Theater's Octavarium, Opeth's Ghost Reveries, Kino's Picture, James LaBrie's Elements of Persuasion etc.)

There have been some standouts, though:
Redemption - The Fullness of Time (super-group with Ray Alder on vocals, his best performance EVER)
John Petrucci - Suspended Animation (instrumental, DT's guitarist)
Pelican - The Fire in our Throats will Beckon the Thaw (instrumental)
Iron Maiden - Death on the Road (live, the mix with the audience is done really well!)

Nothing has really interested me all that much this year, keeping in mind that I haven't really been listening to all that much new music lately.

ok why does everybody on BOS listen to weird indie rock/underground music?

there seems to be an unhealthy concentration of said music devotees :p
I'm not too sure how to define underground, but hardly any of the above listed bands could be considered as such. Indie, which is defined as a genre in which bands are signed on INDEPENDENT labels, again would only qualify for a few of these aformentioned bands. I remember the days when Interpol were relatively unheard of, the times before "Antics," where people actually listenend to them for their sound, but now I can't go anywhere without a hearing people saying they skipped half of TotBL because it was boring. Maybe it's the impeding HSC that is making me so cynical... oh well.

P.S: Does anybody else feel that Triple J has gone downhill? Also, thanks for letting me ramble on.
