I've had exposure to all sorts of music through school and through my instruments but my favourite genre would be anything that sounds 80's thrash/hair metal. I'd listen to any power or heavy metal or hard rock too.

In terms of bands (to name a few favs):
Guns n Roses
Motley Crue
KISS
Metallica
Megadeth
Pantera
Van Halen
Iron Maiden
Skid Row
Hanoi Rocks
ACDC
Aerosmith
Brides of Destruction
Dragonforce
Led Zeppelin
Velvet Revolver
The Darkness

...the list goes on, but basically anything hard and heavy that i can rock out to, but with that sleezy glam factor in there somewhere too ;)

As for chillout, i prefer the powerballads (ala skid row) or acoustic ballads (ala gnr lies) :)

edit: in fact does anyone listen to this stuff anymore?

fav. band would have to be the distillers. in particular, during their first 2 albums.
then there's
qosta, afi, rancid, kyuss, desert sessions, sneaker pimps, radiohead, the mars volta, nirvana, yeah yeah yeahs, jeff buckley, dappled cities fly, kings of leon, arctic monkeys, hot hot heat, 78 saab, clare bowditch and the feeding set, josh pyke, red riders, the subways, horrorpops, ...and you will know us by the trail of dead, the magic numbers, eagles of death metal, portishead, clor, oasis, nofx, the morning after girls, annie, architecture in helsinki, the strokes, black rebel motorcycle club, blur, athlete, belle and sebastian, metric, we are scientists, the grates, the cops, the futureheads. and many more.

i can listen to that rnb or hip hop stuff. only some though. i'll like it if it's heaps catchy or something like that. it wouldn't be for the lyrics.

i guess this: http://www.last.fm/user/myfaceisburning/ is an indication of my music. i wouldn't judge based on the weekly stuff alone lol.

Well i'm big fan of jazz, blues, classical, metal, rock, rap, acoustic, country, alternative. I appreciate music for its skill in composition and performance so I don't really care about the genre, as long as the musician shows a high level of skill (i.e. classical with composition, metal with solos and riffs, rap with intelligent lyrics, country with guitarists such as Chet Atkins)

I like hardcore/hardcore-punk, metalcore, southern rock. But I really do hate all that emo shit that is like taking over the world now. It's horrible.

If I post a giant list of my favourite bands I'll look like an awesome indie scenester muso, yeah?

Anyway.

2 favourites of all time:
Elliott Smith, fantastic music, but his music is even more enhanced by listening to his live recordings and hearing through his music and state of mind what he was going through, leading up to his suicide. XO = Probably the best album ever made.

Sufjan Stevens. Seriously, the man is simply fantastic. Brilliantly composed tracks on all his albums, incorportating a plethora of instruments, fluently and coherently constructed. Plus his recent tour was so great.

Otherwise, Wolf Parade + any of Spencer Krug's numerous projects are right up there along with Laura Marling, Nicole Atkins, etc. But yeah, you could always look here:
