Can somebody confirm what operational feasability is, because different textbooks have different opinions on it. also, what Sam Davis' book says is totally different to what is said on the New HSC Online site.

I always think of Operational Feasibility as whether or not the staff will be able to use the new system, and whether or not the users will accept the new system. The one on the NSW HSC Online website looks pretty accurate to me, but I know what you mean about the differing definitions; i've seen about three different explanations of the feasibility stages, and I don't know which one is entirely correct!

Operational has to do with

- If the project team has required experitise and resources to complete the project
- If the team can support the project in the future
- Do they need to retrain staff to use the software

But as Honky Tonk has pointed out, there are so many versions out there...

The aim of determining the operational feasibility is to analyse whether a solution will be usable by the target customers. The users of the software being produced must be able to effectively use, or operate, the program. It is often necessary to train users to enable the solution to be operationally feasible. - From Excel

True, there are so many definition/explanation just for the one thing such as the idea of "Operational Feasibility". But really they all mean the same and is said in different ways. So there is no need to worry to much.

I guess the easiest way i remember "Operational feasibility" is pritty much the way Beaky has explained it.

But i would also consider "Outsourcing" (occurs when the company lacks resource and experitise). Outsourcing in definition refers
to the hiring of specialist to perform particular task for a company.
Advantages of outsourcing may includes:
- Specialist perform quality work
- Specialist have access to greater technology and resource(is the reason for hiring specialist in the first place)
- Company free up resource such as (time and workers)
- Specialist often are quick at responding to changes
- Faster development time
- At times may be the cheapest way for the company as specialist
work when they are needed and paid for what they have done.

I use Wilson and Excel texts books and they have completley different definitions (Wilson actually contradicts herself from preliminary to hsc definitions in her yr 11 and yr 12 book) but what i gather, operational feasibility is like others said pretty much, if the solution will be able to operate within the environment and with its current people.
