i'm like 24 marks... i've read the markers comments and stuff from previous years. so there i am thinking there isn't 24 marks for nothing

so i provided yeah a 3 page analysis went thru step by step. then i wrote a 1 page justification (kinda like ntoes to financial statements)... to justify how each transaction was treated. cost of acquisition, convertasim etc. how assets are dfined blabla i hope they read it lol. otherwise i'll get like zero hehe

accting is fun when you know the generic question.

Well, I marked that. We just wanted people to tell us how accounts increased, i.e. which amounts got added where. Start with an opening balance, and finish with a closing balance. Easy !?!
Having said that, a lot of people did this one badly. However, space consumed is not necessarily related to marks gained. I remember at least one person getting most marks of the marks for the question, and all that in _just one page_. It was a simpe question, just long.

In fact, before I started marking, I thought it was going to be a giveaway. Marking a few papers quickly disabused me of that notion :)

well making something worth 24marks where as the other questions weren't even worth half of that did made it seem like we had to do a lot to gain the marks!!
so the mark distribution were very confusing and misleading in that case

Not necessarily. Depends on size of writing, etc. But generally in the past I have found that students who are very confident of their answers tend to write less. HOWEVER, that is a risky strategy. That person showed very little workings, so if they had gotten something wrong, they would not have gotten part-marks.

There was nonetheless a lot to classify and get right/wrong in that one, so I don't think it was misleading. I think you'll agree that the questions should have involved close to an hour's work, so I think the mark allocation was OK.

yeah..it wasn't a "bad" question but 24 big marks on one question surely did put some people off...
myself included...

Well, I can just apologise. We think it was a reasonable test, and it had to be that big in order to test that area appropriately. Hope you did OK on it !
