I thought it was a great movie. Very touching.

However, I can also understand how there are such extremes with this movie. From my observations, most people seem to either love it or hate it...my mother dislikes it a lot because she feels it's too tragic and dark to be a kids' movie.

It looks great - incredible art direction (the pirate ship sequence), and a pretty decent sense of whimsy, but it's way too glossed over, which just makes it end up seeming superficial. Despite Depp's performance, and sort of because of Winslet's performance, you never get a sense of anything other than what they're doing - there's no real question between Davies and Mrs Barrie, and Davies' wish to "just pretend" isn't given much time. I think the most telling example of how glossed over the film was was in the cricket scene - Barrie's mate mentions paedophelia (indirectly) and then just sort of continues on. It was a baseless rumour, but it's still a pretty weighty issue, and the film doesn't dwell on it at all.

So yeah, IMO it's too light to be a great film for adults, and maybe slightly too dark (and with too few fantasy sequences) to be a great kids film.

I don't think it's a kids' movie?

it was pretty well made, a great storyline and johnny depp's attempt at the accent wasnt so bad either.

Wow!

I loved this film. 5/5 - probably the best or second best film of the last twelve months (loved Eternal sunshine too) it was just so magical, I love the idea of keeping your childhood imagination, the beauty and innocence of childhood and how it's spoilt. I like to think I still am a kid, loved it (and cried shhhhh).

Brilliant

I loved the movie too. Compared to the other crap that was on at the same time (think Phantom of the Opera)

Anyways I mainly loved it for 2 reasons.

1. I love Irish accents

2. I love Johnny Depp

That movie is awesome!

Worst of the nominees last year by far. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind should've had its spot, or Collateral, or The Incredibles.
