I am having trouble figuring out whether I want to do FINS1612/1613/both!

1612- seems important since it's an introduction, and I'm thinking of doing a finance major.

1613- compulsory for CA so I need to do it regardless; but I worry that I might not go so well if I don't have time to attend all the lectures/tutorials, and I also wonder if I'll be disadvantaged since I didn't do 1612.

... or I could always try doing both, and also doing ACCT 2A (ie. 3 subjects per sem).

Any tips?

You are not really disadvantaged in doing FINS1613 first.

However, if you're going to do a finance major, I would start with FINS1612, or do FINS1612/1613 together.

well last semester bus fin sucked ass in the finals. cmi is kinda a joke because its so easy. probably better off doing bus fin first so you can do portfolio next semester.

wells i did fins 1613 first because its a prerequisite for most of the other finance subjs and im going to do fins1612...apparently 1612 is more theory based and 1613 is more mathematical...so i don't think it really matters which one u take first.

hey jeff.

sry didnt reply your email at work lol.

um. personally, i did 1613 first to get a taste of finance. (since it's compulsory anyway, like you said)

that way. if you dont like it, you'd still have a choice to change to another major and not waste a unit doing 1612.

I dont think you will disadvantaged from not doing 1612.

lecture notes from 1613 is comprehensive. you will be able to pick almost everything by reading the notes. but the lecturer sometimes gives extra examples in lectures.

as with qmb... just get it over and done with lol.. I'll send ya Last session's pass notes.

Overall, i think you can manage doing 2a, 1613 and qmb at the same time. with 1613, abit of it is applied qma.. financial maths & irr. lotta reading if you wanna get good marks. QMB you need to do the tutorial homework to understand the work, shouldn't be too hard if you did ext maths.

Luckly, 2a is easy. :)

Thanks for your help guys.

I'm planning on doing Acct2a and 1613 now... but not sure about 1612. If I miss lectures, will I be seriously seriously disadvantaged?

As for QMB.. the timeslots for the lectures are horrible for s1, 2007 (they only have one lecture timeslot so I'll wait until s2) and I sucked at 3u maths :(

once you knock off the cores for finance, you can do those electives (all the way upto required 42 or 48uoc) at the same time? like maybe even 4 semester 1 for one major, another 4 in semester 2?

any subject that aint normally on that semester (ie. qma in S2, Qmb s1, etc. ) have terrible pass times, and only 1 lecture going. thats why i tried (no luck) too delay for acct 1b too s2 2007, but it seems acct 1b 2007 is pretty good for me (2 days at uni! woo)
