I have to know about combinations, (committe type questions), permutations (With repetitions), binomial probability, kth term of binomial expansion, trig identites, trig equations (t method or subsidary angle method) and angle between two lines. anyone got any past papers on these topics or any hints/advice.. thanks - im stressing out! :( xoxo

mazza, get past papers from your school firstly. then get ur hands on any type of past papers textbook or topic by topic questions book, and do relevant sections.

I got 92% but i swear it was a fluke.. that was for year 11's yearly..

It must have been a fluke if you were talking about it in your "Marks" thread :)

My tip? It's only your first assessment, you have room to work with if you screw it up - plenty of time to catch up in the future (unless you're one of them "I must get 90% in everything" types).

It means that things can change very quickly, you have your ups and downs during the HSC year - you can't really make a direct correlation between what has happened in the past year with what you will achieve this year, because you cannot simply say (for example) "I scored 90% last year, I will score 95% this year".

I'm only saying that things can change, very quickly with the added stress levels, the assessment tasks piling on, the homework each night (hours) and other factors such as sleeping habits.

I think I know why you're receiving the wrong message/signal from me - because I use inverted commas, right? I'll italicise text so that you don't think I'm being sarcastic... but that's the only way I can quote (without using
tags).

Your "Marks" thread - I didn't say that sarcastically, because it really is your thread, and it was entitled Marks so that's why I said "Marks" -- others never get the wrong impression from me?

I'm always explaining my post to you, because you take it wrongly and think I'm trying to have a go at you.

(Note: I am not trying to have a go at you, I don't even know you!) :)

yeah, except everyone else would of done well (well they stuffed up the last one)

This was all the questions:

1) Prove by induction: (8 marks)
2+5+8+...+(3n-1)=(n/2)(3n+1)

2) Sketch showing all important features (32 marks)
a) y=x^3-3x-4 (12 marks)

b)y=[(x^2+x+4)/x] (20 marks)

and we got over an hour

Well its the stupidest marking scheme... Kindof like one that our maths teacher set ages ago.

That induction question shouldnt be worth more than 3.
The first curve should be worth about 2 or 3.
The second one about 4.
You can do them both very quickly without calculus. (But then you'd have to add SPs.)

And it really should be a 30 min test...

I wish I had assessments like that, but in the long run, it does you no good. You are much better off doing hard things which will prepare you better.

if you had a assessment like that, it would mean that your assessment rank or at least the range is gonna be altered which could mean that lesser intelligent student will gain an advantage and the 'smart people' will be disavantaged in terms of hsc assessment mark. thus you want a hard test or at least a fair test if you are good enough.

I wish I did have harder assesments because then the rest of the class wouldn't have done as well as me, with the easier assements any little mistakes show up.

you don't ONLY have to worry about little mistakes when there are 32 MARKS on a question!!! tell me when you get your marks back or if you already did how your teacher marked it. if its my teacher it be like the curve is not round enough... 2 marks gone... did not prove some irrelevant formula... another 2 marks gone... too much or too less workings... 10 marks gone...

What text book do you use?
The challenge exercise in Maths in Focus is good for Binomial.

There were two different types of induction questions that came up about a week ago in this thread:
http://www.boredofstudies.org/community/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19832
If you can do both of these then you should be ok. Just practice for induction.

Since this test is both Binomial and Induction, maybe you will get a binomial induction question...
