Fitness First sucks, unless your a middle-aged woman looking to socialise rather than workout.

For guys I recommend a small local gym. The owner is guaranteed to know his stuff and will even write out a program for you. Also there arent many people there and those who are are generally serious about their training.

is there some sort of deal that students can get that is cheaper than a normal membership ($80) but still lets you in at any time? Because i have the $40 student one but you have to go before 4 and as a result i go the equivalent of once a month.

it really depends on your daily timetable. like many have said, you can get cheaper rates if you go at certain hours.

if you're only going to go just for the cardio, i wouldn't really recommend going to a gym. (if fitness first isn't a hassel to get to, from where you live compared to the local gym). fitness first does also provide you a program for you to work on and such (for the person who stated above that the localgym will write out programs and 'know their stuff'). if you're near mt pritchard, i recommend you goto the fitness center at mounties. it's really expanding and it'll be one of the biggest fitness center/gyms in sydney. i went there for 3 months before changing to a more local gym. mounties focus more on your health as well. they will give you a eating diet (tell you what you should/shouldn't eat - which basically is, everything you like, is bad for you, and everything you don't like, is good for you), and they'll give you regular progress reports/checkups monthly so you know yourself how much improved and such. really great. i'm sure to go back there when it goes bigger, thats for sure :)

There are two main plans:

1. $40 a month on a 1 year contract. When your contract finishes they place you on a $40/month basis. No restrictions as to when you come.
I just also found out yesterday that you can ask them to suspend/hold your membership for a certain period (they usually charge $10/month - when your contract has completed). But I was planning to leave the gym due to lack of time but they seemed desperate to keep me as a member and actually let me hold my acocunt for free.

2. $50 a month on a no contract deal. Restricted before 4pm.

Note: there are also joining fees but if you join during one of their specials you wont have to and you can get the first month free.

Going on non-member visits can be costly.

Hold on... are you telling me that if i have finished my 12 month contract, i have the student thing of being restricted before 4pm.. from the 13th month i am a member i can go any time? Because if so, thats fucken brilliant but for the past 6 months i have not been aware of this. Or maybe i have understood you wrong...
please explain because no where on their website does it have membership terms and conditions.

i go to fitness first randwick (btw does anyone else go there??) and the student plan they had was like $40 a month but u had to get in before 4pm which is alright if u just go after skool and it has to be the gym u joined at and cant go to other fitness firsts without paying like $5 or something. but i heard they got rid of the student plan, probz cause so many ppl were joining and they thought they could make more money.

i been paying i think $70 a month for over a year now, but cause my mum pays it i dont mind, but at least then if u do decide to go to the gym laterz u can go and ur not restricted to the one gym. and also if u make it there like 5 or 10 mins laterz than 4 sometimes they can be gay and not let u in... but most of my mates get away with like up to about 15 mins cause randwick rox!!

they also have offers if u got full membership and u join ppl up u get like 5 bucks off ur membership, but u can only do it like twice

If you were on the 12 month contract then you shouldn't be restricted to any time period (even if the plan finished). At least i'm not....

My friends who have the $50/month plan (no contract) are restricted but they still go after 4pm.

Do the Fitness First in Randwick and Miranda have pools? I know there is a pool (not 50m though) at Carlingford and that Parramatta has one of the largest Cardio Theatre in the Southern Hemisphere.

weird.
Im on student, $39.95 a month restricted before 4pm. It was a 12month contract but now its finish but im still paying the same etc.
I called them up today and the only thing they have available is an upgrade to $70 a month unrestricted but only at my fitness first OR $80 unrestricted time and place. They have nothing else for students.

here's a question: do all the people with Fitness First bags actually go to Fitness First?

cause if they do that's a hell of a lot of people.

Hmm yeah, you always see them walking around with those... it must be a new trend or something. But it's certainly very good advertising for Fitness First, and that's probably part of the reason that they are so well known.
