Hi all,

hope you've been as happy as i was to finish english!!!
For the hardware option, how in depth do you need to know flip-flops? I can work out how to use the basic type, but some books, like the samuel davis book go into incredible depth, which almost seems useless to us for the exam

so do we need to know the basics, like in excel, or go into the d-types etc???

what do you want to know about ff's?
theres a few types
Toggle (T) flip flop
D flip flop
and J-K flip flop
all quite easy to use once you get the hang of it, what you really need to know for the exam is MUX, DEMUX and the GAL16V8 Programmable chip.

Don't forget the simplest of them all, the RS flip flop.

Since the syllabus doesn't specify the type of flip flops to learn, I think it would be best to know the RS, being the simplest, in detail and know about the rest (JK, T and D) generally. A JK flip flop can also be wired in such a way that it works as a T or a D flip flop, so maybe that can be an easy way out :D

MUX and DEMUX are abbreviations for multiplexing and demultiplexing. How can you know its a certain programmable chip? As far as the syllabus goes its only "interpret a data stream for a device for which specifications are provided"
