I'm about to start first year Business/Law and have followed the handbook starting the 4 business subjects in Autumn and the other 1 business and 2 law subjects in spring, leaving me with a thin looking timetable with a day off in each autumn and spring week....Have I done the right thing or should I integrate law into autumn???

It's up to you, some follow the handbook strictly and some dont even look at it, In the end it's personal preference and convenience.
