Bunnings rockdale is in need of cashiers mainly but also other area's (especially my area, Tools & Electrical department) need many people. Experience is not needed but I suppose may help in the selection process, the cashier experience isn't needed or expected. They're usually more than happy to require/train fresh meat for cashiers.

Come in at rockdale bunnings (Corner of rockdale plaza drive & west botney street) and fill out a form. The process is basically phone interview -> group interview -> single interview -> job. My recommendation is that you emphasis on;

- how you like working with people,
- never ask the payrate (I can tell you most the young people payrateS),
- you want the experience
- casuals are well sought for
- in your spare time just say you like swimming, jogging, soccer (although you probably go out to get shitfaced they wouldn't employ someone who enjoys partying)
- why you want this job? see points 2 and 3, be vvery patient, smile, make a joke, laugh, say how youve shopped at bunnings before

I gave same advice too my mate, his friends and I did that really myself and got the job, my manager before he left to go overseas told me thats what they look for basically. You can "request" to be put in certain departments but chances are you are thrown in any dept that is after people, but usually they take the more favourable. For example if you are a carpenter you wouldn't be put in gardening, they'd probably throw you in timber and get someone who isn't a carpenter and put them in gardening.

Good luck guys :D 9503 8000 is the store number for any further inquires.

Nesty: They are after full time, part timers and especially casuals.

[Casual rates]
Any age upto 16 - $9.61 ~
17 - $10.97
18 - $13.40

Unsure on 19 but can tell by the trend its up a few dollars, I hear it jumps up heaps to like $15 per hour, I know a girl that turns 19 I'll ask her what she gets.

There are many many positions open afaik.

I didn't know a thing about power tools but they threw me in and I picked it up pretty quickly, if you don't want to be put in any departments, mention that you'd like to be a cashier (only once you got the job, don't go pick-choosing while your at phone, group or single, unless they ask you).

Do they accept applications by fax? Or do you actually need to go to the Rockdale store?
I haven't been asked that, but I'd hand it in if I was you, it gives the impression that you can be bothered too make the trip. You have to pick up an application form from bunnings rockdale anyway.

The current age of our cashiers during full time:
20, 24, 22, 40~, 19

During weekends its like 16,17,18; there is more 18 year olds at our work then youngens, bunnings doesnt cut back your shifts due too age, if you are a great casual they increase them and call you in alot

Why not just emphasise on how you love [insert department here]. My mate chris hated registers, after 1 week he asked to be put into timber and he's happily working there. When I started I emphasised how I liked too muck around with electronics so they put me into Electrical/Tools.

ALL departments need more people, so you have your pick of the litter.
