For SHM questions, do you have to derive the formula v2=n2(a2-x2) using acceleration since its not on the reference sheet? Or can you just whip it since its SHM?

Yeah everyone uses it. Even in past Hsc papers they just use it

If you must derive it, use the fact that acceleration is equal to
$\dfrac{d}{dx}\left(\dfrac{v^2}{2}\right)$
