hi

i need to draw state diagrams, basically a picture with circles (rings not disks), arrows and text labels ... can anyone reccomend a free/evaluation program that will do this. i tried mspaint.exe but you cant move stuff, i tried the gimp but it doesnt have a circle tool (wtf?!) and i dont want to fiddle with shrinking selections, i also tried the stuff in ms word but it doesnt do text labels very well and im too lazy to plot the whole diagram by hand in tex.

cheers

Paint Shop Pro is quite a good program by Jasc Software. You can download the evaluation version from:

http://www.jasc.com/products/?

And what do you mean draw state diagrams?

PSP for this is an overkill.

http://dia-installer.sourceforge.net/ < dia is a program designed for drawing schematics and flow diagrams.

What do you mean word can't do text labels very well? You can add text to inside any shape by right clicking and "Add Text". I've mostly always used Word for state diagrams, FSMs and ERDs...if its too hard in Word I do it in dia.
