when you write in french, has your teacher encouraged you to use colloquial expressions and slang-type words? Cause mine does, but i was speaking to a friend who said that his teacher reccomended that he doesn't...

we were told that we could use colloquialisms but generally move away from using ones that are too "up to date" because the examiners may not recognise them (cos they are old )

it depends what context the question is
if it is an email to your friend or a postcard go for it whereas a question like a job application or something more serious dont use it.
