Ok. I bought a new comp and got the guys to install my old A-drive into the new comp. The problem is, whever i put a disk in there, it says to put soemthing in there!!! It doesnt notice anything I throw in there.

When I go to device manager and shit, it says that this device is working properly .... obviously its not???

Anyone know whats wrong with this thing?

At our school, half the floppies you would put in the computers would give that message. Only some brands worked, so maybe try some different brand diskettes. Also, it screwed up all the floppies that didn't work.

- Floppy Disk Drive Cable, connects your floppy drive up to the FDD plugin in your motherboard

- Sounds, as in, do you hear disk accessing/reading sounds you normally do when the Floppy functions normally.

Either the disk is stuffed, or the drive only recognises a handful of disks, this is actual case nowadays, i'm not particularly sure why it does that, but it has happened to me before, that's why i render floppy disks as obsolete and unreliable, and would rather a USB memory stick.

Hmmm never fails on me, at least it has a lower failure rate than Floppys, i dont think you can gurantee much in terms of storage mediums. It's computers it's the nature of it.

i use zip disks to transfer stuff to/from uni, expensive but durable.

I have also had bad experiences with USB drives losing information.

However, floppies are just too slow and low capacity....

i stick with USB now.

u start loosing info after long usage.

if they replaced normal disks for zip disks, that would be decent i guess.
one that reads those 100/250/??? disks would be ideal.

we would finally get rid of floppies and the people at iomega will be happy with their money.
