Suggestions of ways to find the answers:

find an editable game that does what you want, look at the source code, steal it
find a tutorial that does what you want, look at and steal the code
ask questions of your peers, the teacher
search for answers in the Game Maker forum
Join the Game Maker forum and ask the question there
Read the Game Maker Manual / Help file
Lol i like the 1st suggestion.. "steal it"
EDIT: Hmm.. i thought HTML coding was enabled

I do SDD at my school, and its fucking shitty, who would have thought software design doesn't involve a computer? Fucking teacher. Every single fucking day she comes in and says, were doing theory. EVERY DAY. I WANT TO KILL HER.

In the strict sense of "software design" and "software engineering", the only time you actually need to use a computer is to write documents (specifications, requirements, etc), draw diagrams, and maybe code a simple prototype.

Common misconception of SDD :)

Screen It! - The national moving image competition for Primary Schools now
includes a category for computer games.

It is open to all Australian primary school students aged under 13 (on
Thursday 17 November 2005) Entries can be from individuals or groups. You
can enter through your school or on your own.
Programming languages are GameMaker or Klik & Play

There are cash prizes of $500, Lego Movie Making packs and Lego Games from
the Lego Education Centre, and video game prizes from THQ.

Details: http://www.acmi.net.au/screenit.htm

So you are no longer in primary school? Wait for next year and maybe we can do secondary school too. You'll be at university by then? Thats life.

Yes...but the emphasis of the course is on the design, not the development :p

OK
So its all about planning and design. It can still be a game rather than some boring database project! I know nothing about SDD but surely you could do the same design stuff and maybe you are still writing specifications in word but its more fun.

Please tell your little brothers and sisters about the Primary School Game Competition

Software design for me all year has been playing flash games on funny-base.com... Can you say "Final work in 7 hours?"
