I thought it was very easy to the point that even people who didn't study Economics would know the answer to some questions.

Re: economics exam '12

i may have lost a few marks in extended response, silly mistakes and such

EDIT: they may compensate for the easiness by marking harder for the essays and stuff

Was quite decent I thought. Though pretty pissed because I misread the question on the increase in school leavers age and just talked about LFPR and not unemployment. Ah well- its done now. Essays were pretty broad -> I did balance of payments and case study. Should be 20 in MC
wht did u write for the bop question?

Yes i did.
Essay 25 i done this.

Talk about changing industry production.
- Moving away from manufacturing
- Moving away from Agg.
- due to the GLOBALISATION PROCESs
- removal of import tarrifs
- introduction of FTAs, SEATO
- Importance of WTO in promoting trade
- Talk about how that effects COMPARATIVE ADVANTAGE & OPPORTUNITY COST

Then refer to china Growing population and how they are sourcing us for education (for our eduction)
Education industry grow

More efficient Mining industry

and less based instudies under threat due Asian countries becoming more specialised and our appreciated exchange rate
scared the shits out of me for a second there

Anyone found it difficult to relate the global economy to balance of goods and services?
Nope, talk about the rise in Asian growth through their manufacturing supremacy (especially in China) lead to a surge in the demand for commodities from australia. This demand meant australia's Export quantities increase, demand also meant that prices went up for iron ore and minerals - led to highest ToT in 140 years (130.5 in sep 11) and therefore we started seeing surpluses in our trade balances which then meant modest surpluses in the BOGS. Further, i also highlighted the future possible decline in investment (when talking about NPI), when Glenn Stevens announced in his media release 'peak in resource sector investment likely to occur next year' and related that back to supposed decline in future NPI's

BUT OVERALL, really happy with the test, dunno - but it looks like they set it out straight forward knowing that it would be the exam straight after english or something...(they do the timetable and exams at the same time)
Except for that last essay about economic objectives, which i found too broad and ended up going into 15 pages and not going into too much detail, im looking for high band 5 - band 6.
I'd rather it be easy, than a crazy hard test that wouldve ruined my view on economics forever. Not so rewarding for those, like me, who spent days studying topics like environmental stability and market based policies for environment specific essays.
Also, nothing about case study in short answer, made life so easy.

Pretty happy in the end! Goodluck to everyone who didn't study for bio because of eco...atleast you can go in knowing you did well in eco :)

Bahahhaah the gender q isn't sexist. Due to mining boom and history of employment, male dominated industries have lower unemployement an higher wages. As well due to generic disadvantage women are less likely to be promoted (time off work in maternity leave)

Such an easy test. Have gone over answers, 19/19 for Multiple choice for sure, maybe lost 1 or 2 for the short answer (only put down 2 points for the females getting paid less, might lose a mark for that....) and hopefully 18/20 for each essay, because i got down 7 pages for each, with heaps of stats.

Does anyone know the answer to Q18 MC? It was the one on subsidies with a graph. The only two possible answers were $2 and $4, i answered $2, but i'm not sure....

Teacher was pretty stumped too, said he would email me when he thought it through.

I thought that the multiple choice and short answers very easy. But I found the essays pretty difficult... I would have much preferred last years. Last year it was like "monetary policy effect on inflation and unemployment" sooo much easier than the stupid easy question saying effectiveness of policies on economic objectives :| could have written a whole report on that crap haha
