my exam sheet says that we need to know geometrical applications of CALCULUS for the half-yearly..
my Excel 2u study guide book only has a section on geometrical applications of DIFFERENTIATION..

ARE THEY THE SAME THING?

When they say geometrical applications of calculus, they would usually mean geometrical applications of differentiation, i.e. sign of derivatives, curve sketching, maximum and minimum problems, tangents and normals etc. It would be safe to assume that they are both the same thing.

Yes, they're on the same topic, differentation is part of calculus. Integration is the other part and not important in this part of the course.

i came upon this example in my book:
........
.......
1. f ''x = 32x . d/dx((2xsqrd + 5)pwrof7) + (2xsqrd + 5)pwrof7 . d/dx(32x)
2. = 32x . 7(2xsqrd + 5)pwrof6 . 4x + (2xsqrd + 5)pwrof7 . 32
3. = 32(2xsqrd + 5)pwrof6 (28xsqrd + (2xsqrd + 5))

it is the working from line 2 to line 3 that i dont understand. how did line 2 become line 3?

It took a common factor of 32(2x2+5)6 out. If you still can't see it, expand line 3 a little, and you should get line 2.

BTW, "to the power of" is denoted by ^.

2^3 = 8
3^2 = 9

Okay, we utilise this form, finding the primitive of a function say

Have you learnt the concept of that yet?
