ok ok.... interest rate is not inflation rate......

Investments.... hmmmm...... that never occurred to me at first.

True, there is now no incentive.

Too bad, tertiary students are the minority (if not, Labor wouldn't have done the cuts.)
That shows how little voice we have.

First, USYD strikes... now this.

It sucks. It really sucks.
The Sydney Uni strikes are about a collective agreement between the staff and management of the university. It has literally nothing to do with students except for that lecturers are forcing students to go without proper education just so they can line their pockets with more cash. Not to mention that they're getting their union and socialist alternative thugs to interrupt the learning of all other students on campus.

The only part of these cuts that will actually impact students in any even remotely negative way are where universities need to bring their budgets back up to the level that the federal government affords to them. That will almost definitely happen via staff cuts. How extensive that is remains to be seen

gives us another reason why we should boot her off.

It's already depressing how their investing heavily on every other education other than tertiary. We are the future of Australia...not some high school drop out.

and is TAFE counted in the "higher education' bracket?

Investing in secondary education means we have less high school dropouts who then go on to tertiary education. You are assuming that the current situation will go on. Universities are not hubs for rich kids and international students. I'm sure universities can survive without HECS discounts and professors not going on overseas trips. On the other hand disadvantaged kids need money for extra resources now!

You're still in high school so you don't know how many times a uni goes through budget cuts a year. And on top of everything else, I'd say this is a political stunt since We all go vote in public schools, therefor a renovation would bring a positive image towards the labour party when it comes to voting times. And investing in secondary education does not reduce the number of high school dropouts. Most of the dropouts are delinquents anyways, not to generalise but the law is 17 years of age, I'd say people are responsible enough to decide to drop out or not by the age of 17 with or without extra investment.

Smartest post yet.
Can't wait to stop peacekeeping operations and stop patrolling our borders.
Wonder when the Indonesians are going to attack us.
Handful of dem illegal immigants and an imaginary attack that is never going to happen is more important than education.

More places to get the money: stop giving money to private schools and Holden

Is the answer zero times a year?

Other than this cut, I can't remember the last time university funding was reduced. As I recall, Labour since 2008 has raised the fees the cap on course fees, introduced the student services and amenities fees, and significantly expanded access to youth allowance and related scholarships. I'm sure there's more I didn't n pay attention.

Yeah, I have no problem with any of these reforms. Less money for those on middle-class welfare, less money for those who rely on their parents checkbook, less money going through tax loopholes and forcing unis to cut their bloated staff and be selective about what they do with their money. Wins all round.

Lets see, last year Macquarie uni had a giant budget cut which caused one of the facilities to shut down. I remember students protesting outside and flyers being handed out. I also remember that UNSW had their exam times reduced from 3 hours to 2 hours due to budget cuts. So if you cannot remember, please do some research from 2008 on wards cause I'm sure there were alot more cuts being made on a yearly basis since.

and tots to Rafy for sharing the links.

That's pretty much already been done with all the school halls.
