Autonomy day was shit.

I will just give you a sec. to take that in.

Seriously, it was. A day that used to be a day to appreciate the baser, primitive aspects of being a uni student - sex and beer - has been twisted into a day of "alcoholism" and "sexual abuse". Also a day to be abused by the the commercialism of alcohol.

This day has now become a day of queues. A queue to get in, a queue to get a drink, a queue to go to the toilet. What a fucking disgrace it is, that it takes less times (compare 30 mins to 2 mins) to get a Jim Beam RTD, instead of a beer from the bar. I fucking hate RTD's, I don't care about the price, but when it takes less than half the time to get a Jim Beam and Cola, instead of a beer, I will fucking take it.

I fucking hope they improve in the future, otherwise autonomy day will become the very thing they demonise it as: a day where people get drunk in an unsafe environment.

I've still never actually made it to one Autonomy Day yet (I think this is the first year I could have gone but didn't!) and I seriously don't regret it.

All the girls standing in the line for the bathroom
All the girls standing in the line for the bathroom
All the girls standing in the (all the girls standing in the)
All the girls standing in the line for the bathroom
*cue N.E.R.D. song*

Edit: Btw, please explain "Girls have big elbows" :D

Pretty sure it's got something to do with celebrating Newcastle uni's independence from......UNSW? Fuck, I don't know. It's some shitty day where everyone gets blind drunk at uni and really trashy. There are events (see Diggers Appreciation thread (and probably others)) but they seem pretty ordinary in my opinion, even if I was drunk.

After the 40 minute queue to actually get into the BOTH area, I have to line up again for 30 minutes to get a drink. After I get there, I find out they've run out of cans of the (relatively) cheap beers. Fine, I'll get them in the (plastic) scooners.

Have you ever noticed that every time you pass a girl, they some how stick their elbows out just in time as you're walking by to make you spill a mouthful of beer out of the cup?

As a side note, fuck you to all those short ass girls, that start out in the line 5 people behind me, but somehow get in front of me by the time we get to the bar.

Also, Emily was right, it's to celebrate the independence from UNSW.

I don't know who does it, but I know what you mean. I think anyone does it? Or maybe I have too much and walk INTO the elbows. I really couldn't say :p

Emily, if you weren't such a fag to me ie. speaking in RL terms, I would totally invite you to come to Autonomy day with me.

Srsly, you would've made it such a better day. It was pissing down raining and the only chick that hit on me was this girl I knew from high school who has somehow put on 10 kilos since I last saw her.

Unfortunately, the Autonomy Day of yesteryear is well and truly gone. :(

Didn't go today (because I had work), but even without work, I still wouldn't have gone. I've had big one's the past two years, and they were not too bad, but now im over it.

Over the rules, and like you said jumb, over the commercialisation. BOTH needs something. It's just......stale. Good for a quite beer on the verandah with some mates, but I don't rate it seriously as a night time venue.

Oh, I forgot to mention: Apparently they've done away with the boat races. I actually heard that they've changed the beers to non-alcoholic drinks.

Reply to chris: I didn't like it this year, in fact I hated it, but I will keep going. It's a great day for what it's supposed to be and that will keep me going. The day is full of inebriation and sexism, and I love it for it. Even though the media will try to tell you otherwise, I'm yet to see something bad happen there.

I know man, but the times of years gone by when you'd walk past Hunter/Bowman Building area at 10am and find people passed out are now gone.

I guess in respect for the actual meaning of the day, it's not such a bad idea to clean it up a bit, but I just feel it's become too managed as an event, and the BOTH isn't the right place for that to happen as it currently is.

I don't want to come across as some negative bore in what im saying, I think they have the right idea as a whole, they just aren't executing it the best way possible.

EDIT: I guess I just can't seem to take the BOTH seriously when it comes to hosting managed events. :/

Totally saw Grafton Primary there the night before my b'day and they were sexxxxxx. But yes, I imagine BOTH would be pretty shit for something like Autonomy Day (though for diff reasons to you). I think it would be a really shit daytime event venue. As you said, fine to sit in for a drink/snack during a break at uni or whatever with/without mates, but I really don't think Autonomy Day sounds too great. That said, I don't know, never been. But..blergh..just seems so unappealing honestly.

And James, how am I a fag to you in real life? :( I thought I was only a bitch (and only occasionally) online! :S Though I dunno what that was supposed to mean though. Like I'm supposed to hit on you just coz you're lonely? Whut?

The big black bug bled black blood.
Doesn't make me your 'squeeze'.

James, at tennis today, there was this little shit who seriously looked like Mini-you. Except he was ridiculously annoying and kept making retarded ninja noises every time he 'hit' (read: swung like a crazy person and missed) the ball. But yeh, totally looked like you hahah.
