i was reading my mates pamphlet. it sounded sorta interesting

what's AEISEC?

It's a club on most campus' of most major unis. Facilitates exchanges to other countries after uni to spread cultural awareness. Sounds good in theory but its just something you'd do if you don't get graduate work, well in my opinion.

Reading the pamphlet over now, it doesn't sound that much like AIESEC. The bit that says 'Design your own program of international leadership activities' sounds like effort. But yeah, agree with everyone else, I'm curious to find out exactly what it's all about.

The best (and maybe the only) career oriented clubs are MULS, ASSOC and ECFS.

RE: Upcoming Opportunities - Overseas and Oncampus

Although you haven't attended the welcome session or enrolled in the
GLP yet, we have a few opportunities with deadlines coming up soon,
which I have listed below.

As part of your GLP you design a program of 'leadership activities'.
For almost all of them you will have a MUCH BETTER chance of being
selected if you are a GLP participant, so make sure you mention it on
the application forms!

Each activity is worth a set amount of GLP 'points' and before you
graduate you need to get 200. I have included below the points value for
each opportunity with a deadline coming up soon. I understand many of
you are waiting for basic information on the program at the Welcome
Session. Do not worry about 'requirements' and 'points' too much at this
stage as I will explain these at the Welcome Session. The most important
thing is that you apply for any of the opportunities below that interest
you! We can sort out the details of how it fits into the GLP after your
Welcome Session.

As always, I am most happy to speak to you about these opportunities
and whether they are right for you. Please call me on 9850 6943 to
discuss these, rather than email me, as I hundreds of emails each day.

1) MQ Habitat for Humanity Team

Macquarie are sending a team of staff and students to India for 2 weeks
in July, to rebuild houses for the local communities affected by the
Tsunami. Any student or staff member is eligible to apply and you don't
need any building skills or experience. It costs $4000 per person
(including building materials, and without any administration costs).
Macquarie is generously subsidising most of this, however each student
and staff member who goes will raise $1500 each towards the total.

GLP Points Value: 40 points

2) Global Tech Leaders Symposium

Ten lucky Macquarie students will mingle with professionals from
science, technology, business and innovation at an upcoming event - the
Global Tech Leaders Symposium. Billed as the world's premier
leadership development conference for high tech students, GTLS will
bring together participants from 10 countries to meet with CEOs, tour
cutting edge manufacturing facilities, undertake high tech community
service projects and importantly, have fun.

This year's event (March 12 - 20) takes place in Singapore and
Shanghai, allowing participants to compare and contrast two of Asia's
most dynamic cities for trade, technology and innovation. Participants
will be accompanied by university staff as well as two
Executives-In-Residence, Chief Global Engineer of Boeing, Ron Bengelink,
and leadership consultant Alisa Tubbs.

Applications are now open for Macquarie undergraduate students (of good
academic standing) studying business, science, computer science,
technology, information technology, design, environmental management or
a discipline that involves high technology. Macquarie is providing a
$2000 scholarship per student towards the cost of the trip. Participants
are required to contribute AUS$700 towards their participation, which
included flights, twin-share accommodation, transport to symposium
sessions and some meals. Participants will also need to arrange and pay
for travel insurance and any necessary visas. Applicants must have a
passport with at least 6 months validity at the time of application.

Application information:
Applications consist of the registration form on the GTLS web site
(www.i-clp.org) and Macquarie's exchange application form
(http://www.international.mq.edu.au/pdfs/Abroad_ExchangeApplication_v2.pdf).
You DO NOT need to attache references or a 'statement of purpose' to the
Macquarie exchange application form. These should be submitted by
Thursday 24 February to Claire Morgans, Macquarie International,
Building E3A Level 1, Macquarie University NSW 2109. Applications will
be considered as they are submitted.

3) Meet a Mate @ Mac

Macquarie Abroad is starting an exciting new program this semester to
get the exchange students and locals mingling. "Meet a Mate @ Mac" will
link local students with one or two international students, and the idea
is that you help them settle in to life in Oz by introducing them to
your friends, showing them round Sydney and just helping to ease the
culture shock.

GLP Points Value: 20 points
Application information: Applications close 1st March but get in quick

4) GLP 'Street Team'

Macquarie International is looking for a team of GLPers to volunteer
for international promotions on campus. Under the GLP point system you
get 40 points for 100 hours of volunteering. Members of the 'Street
Team' can participate in various events over the course of their GLP to
accumulate the 40 points. These include Advising Day, O-Week, Super
Exchange Fair, Open Day and other events where GLP will be promoting
international opportunities. Typical tasks include event management,
strategic communication and fundraising. Lots of fun included!

The first event for the 'Street Team' this year is volunteering on 2
stalls at O-week this semester (28 Feb - 4 March). Volunteers will be
rostered on the stall for 3 hour blocks over the course of the week
(10am-1pm and 1pm-4pm). On the GLP stall volunteers will be recruiting
participants, booking people into colloquia (workshops) and promoting
international opportunities. On the 'Habitat for Humanity' stall,
volunteers will be recruiting volunteers to go to India and
fundraising.

GLP Points: You need to accumulate 100 hours on the team (not just
during O-week) for 40 points.
Application information: Email your name, the shifts you can volunteer
during O-week (dates and times: eg. Monday 10-1), and phone number (for
a short interview) to Ainsley at ainsley.gilkes@io.mq.edu.au. There is a
limit of 20 people on the team at one time - first in first served.

Hmm. It's a bit like the uni getting free labour off us....but the cheap international travel thing looks good.

Anyway I only have a ver busy 2 final years left and I don't see myself getting 200pts.

i got an email confirming the times i will working at the booth for the street team global leadership program thing. I will b working 12 hrs during o week which is like 12 hrs of work i've just started in my life!
