God Damn Database Error (1 Viewer)

Fuck me!! I swear to god, nearly 99 out of 100 times i click on a fucking link in these forums i get a fucking database fucking error!! ARGGGGHHHH. sorry guys i know it isnt ure fault but its sssooooo frutrating, i have to hit refresh about a million times. Today had been the worst day of it ever.

I'm wondering... If each error still sends an email... , mightn't that have flooded the address the night after the english advanced exams (92 ppl clicking refresh)? Inbox must have swelled to 15000 or so...

Also, is the reason (in the other thread, suggestions) to the server sending a new page to the user every time, for the purposes of tracking??? The user tracking page updates every minute, and might lots of other functions be based on that (eg. updating number of posts, and code for saying 'this post has been edited on... which doesn't say if edited quickly)??

out of curiosity - what exactly in the maximum number of connections??

is it like 1 every 1 second or something??

Let's use tactic's half a milllion page views... and explore into something I know nothing about...
average page view is ~5.787 pages a second. Peak hour flow might be 5 times that (conservative w/o limit), looking at the user number... so ~28.935 pages a second.
The largest page might be the index, 99.3kb when saved into drive.
The school section page aruond 77kb...
A full page thread 80kb w/ poll...
A thread w/ 2 posts 30kb...
The reply page is around 27 kb...

At peak hour, av. theoretic Flow could range from 781 ~ 2,865 kb/sec??? But with most users just viewing threads, the mean would be near the top end... 2,300... (assuming everything is reloaded from the server, everytime)
No wonder the server crashes...

1) Big THanx This forum is like a giant empire... hard to manage.
2) How'd you get this for free? The site's doin' pretty well, looking at the load.

mysql default is 100 connections
that means.. that a any given point in time there are 100mysql connections available

apache well i dont know its default.. but it has been reduced because it chews all the resources

that's amazing! it doesn't feel like there are that many people around a time.. but i guess this server is sharing with other web sites?

need to redesign the site!!!

and this vbulleting is known for killing mysql servers

hmmm.... you guy probably get one "damn database errors!!!" complaint for every 10 database errors... and as you're doing this in your own time, out of your own pockets, along with uni degrees, i for one agree with tactic (some other thread). thanks.

is phpbb better than vbulletin in terms of clogging up mysql

it's just I need to set up a forum for this tour thing and I don't know what one to use on my server... thanks

yeh havent anyone though of it this one pplz actually took time to install the forums and manage the whole big site for the hsc students and in return they dont really asked for nothing?
and even pay for it too !
