hey......i heard that if u go for the test using ur car...they tend to fail u because they want u to take the RTA car and therefore pay more......is that true??? can someone shed light on this topic?

if anyone did the test in the RTA car.....how much do they charge u including the booking costs......?? so the overall cost would be around what?

no, that's not true

If they fail it's because they did not satisfy the criteria in order to pass the DART test

I think it's about $40 for rent..

but I'd rather take my own car as I know the length of the bonnet, rear, the width.. whereas I'd feel awkward in a car I've never used and I dont know the dimensions plus how the car cruises nor how much I have to step on the accelerator/brake..

I think overall you'd be looking at $120 if you go for rental RTA car (which I do not recommend)

I did my Ps in my Accord Euro and I passed first go, my friend did it in her Rav4, Passat, Camry, Corolla, etc etc.. actually, besides one girl, all my friends did it in their own cars (and passed)

I have to agree with DaddyK - they would have major legal issues if such a rumour were true.

Nevertheless, I'd avoid using one of their cars - take the car you learnt in because, the theory would go, you'd know the dimensions of the car, its quirks, how it brakes and accelerates etc etc...

Yeah it'll be really bad if the front wheel of your car went over the stop line at the parking lot just because you're not used to the shitty brakes

Just do it in your own car, at least you've driven that for 50+hrs and you know the behaviour of your car..

ohhh another reason to take your own car.. :

When I took my Ps it was raining.. and about 15mins into the test my windows started fogging up, and because I knew where all the buttons were, I could start the a/c on the windshield without taking my eyes off the road

If I was in a rental car.. I would of been stuffed since the glass fogged up really quickly

And also, do you usually drive an European or Japanese car?

You have to take into account that the light and windscreen wiper paddles are on different sides

Some Japanese/Korean cars which have airbags also follow the European styling in which the light indicator is on the left instead of the right

I remember my first time in an Euro car.. i wanted to indicate but my wipers turned on instead =]

yeh we went for a test drive in the south african-sourced, german-engineered focus...i turned on the windscreen wipers a few times before getting used to the indicator stalk on the left.

I'm planning to use my own car as well... spent so many hours learning in it- it seems stupid to use an unfamiliar car?
