So because it's first week and I have no tutorials, tommorow I might have a 5 hour gap where I don't do much (lol). Instead of waiting all that time, is it fine to go to a lecture for the same class but at a different (and in my case earlier) time? Does the uni care, because I guess it could cause some problems with seating?

To make it more clear, in my case in the first week instead of going to a 2hr ECON1101 lecture, (stream E) from 6pm-8pm on Monday; I could go split ECON1101 1hr lectures on Monday 1 - 2 and then another on Weds 2-3 ( in this case stream B) in a different 'stream'. Both lectures are presented by the same person (Dr Motta) and I guess the same content. This would only be the first week, then I would go back to my normal lecture (stream E). http://www.timetable.unsw.edu.au/2014/ECON1101.html

Thanks!!!

sorry if this is a little hard to understand

It's allowed but lecturers may go at a different pace for different streams.
