I think they sent it out to half the state. =p You *can*, althoughly highly improbable, win scholarships. And say, you're a member of the Golden Key. It's a scam, imho.

I think that by scam flyin' meant that it is a waste of money given the number of people offered membership and the slim chance of actually making use of the society.

Well, our Vice Chancellor* (at Macq) wrote a letter and sent it through Macq.

* this person also chaired Golden Key internationally

And as Generator posted, above.

PS - You gotta love the "Notable Golden Key members" in the leaflet... Kim Beazley, Natasha Stott Despoja, Colin Powell, Ronald Regan, Bill Clinton..

I'd think it'd look very nice in a resume. Golden Key is actually a club for all the honours students at our university I think. :)

i like the award scheme run by the faculty of engineering at newcastle better: Dean's merit list - WAM over 77 = FREE function with FREE food and FREE drinks + certificate and academic transcript. It beats paying $94 :D

The cash is a lifetime membership fee, it's not like you have to renew it every year or anything. It's a big wank but it's not a scam.

I joined at the end of my first year and haven't received anything except a nice certificate and enamel pin.

Hardly worthwhile, but I guess it does look nice on your resume.

yeah i got the invite and i joined, only coz i didnt think i'd be in the top 15% ever again, and didnt want to miss an opportunity. I reckon it looks good on your resume, particularly if u wanna work overseas, coz its something employers will recognise.
but then, in my line of work its not very useful, coz for me its not really about working for big institutions like PWC or anything.
They send me e-mails and newsletters and stuff, but i dont go to the functions coz i dont have time, and no offence to anyone, but the idea of hanging out with a bunch of uber genius types doesnt exactly thrill me.....
