I don't believe there is any one good book for HSC Physics because each has strengths and weaknesses. I have found (from a teaching and tutoring perspective) that:

Physics 2 - Andriessen, Pentland etc (make sure you get the one for the revised syllabus, the other one misses things and has extra stuff - eg has electron microscopes and not Westinghouse versus Edisson) This addresses the syllabus dotpoints directly.

Physics in Context - don't know the authors, this had more information on some dot points and explained it differently.

were good.

Spotlight Physics has its strengths too, but is more superficial with its treatment.
The internet is also a great resource for stuff.

I liked the Jacaranda physics book. It had good, simple explanations and was very syllabus oriented. The review questions are also excellent.

In class we used Physics Contexts 2, but often it doesn't stick to the syllabus and the explanations ramble a bit; although its detail makes it good for assignments.

I think all the textbooks will recap slightly year 11 work before diving into the new stuff - but you only need to know the absolute basics like what electric current is, and a little bit about electromagnetic radiation. But I think you'll be fine with all the Physics text books.

As far as study guides go, I have the Excel Physics book which is ok for revision - just covers the main points.

Good luck with yr 12!
