just say you are too tired to work, and if they make you, then just do a shit job, if they tell you off then just say 'i told you i was tired'. very reasonable.

feigning sickness is the easiest way unless your work wants med certificates and stuff. most of the time just faking a bit of aids over the phone will get you everywhere.
or you could say a family emergency has come up, they can't really check that.

it depends on the industry you work in. customise your excuse based on the kind of work you do. for example, i work in a club and quite often did shifts down in the cellar. a couple of times i used the ol' "sore back" excuse when i was rostered for a cellar shift. they accepted that straight away, no questions asked, cos the last thing they want is a compo claim on their hands...

well coz i dont have my p's yet i use the excuse that i can't get a lift to work. thats when they call me for an extra shift. i say that im sick.. thats all i use. sometimes ive been tempted to say that someone i know died but i wouldnt wish it.
