Google has a huge data base of websites. It gets this by spidering the web. Spidering is a process where a little program (a spider) looks at a page, gets all the links from the page, then records those pages, finally goes to all those links and repeats.

I presume google has special spiders for forums since they aren't like normal websites. Therefore you might see google spiders as users.

wud a spider attach itself to a page? i mean, would the google spider be a permanent "online member" or does the spider leave the page once its been recorded?

They usually spider once a month(approx. mabye more often since this forum is updated regularly by members), remember google has super fast computers and internet connections. So the spidering process for one forum doesn't take too long.
