QQ iz only fo China, while the rest of Asia should be on the MSN bandwagon.

MSN iz startin to gain a greater share in China too. I miss the old ICQ dayz, they were fun.

Friend told me to get it and uh..

No option to change the nickname.

No emoticons :(:(

I seem to get everyone whose sent me an email via gmail added onto my list...which is stupid.

The phone part is pretty neat tho, much clearer and less LAGGIER then MSN.

Though I prefer the push-button-to-talk programs like Ventrillo/Teamspeak ...

Well its still in beta, gonna see how it goes =D

Interesting how Microsoft released msn 7.5 on the same day as googel talk was released. Msn 7.5 wasnt set for final release for another few weeks, it came out of the blue, and still has many bugs.....

I hope microsoft dosent feel intimidated by google..

And well on Google talk, i myself will probally not use it. Google is probally a bit too late into the IM market. The 3 key players already dominate the market with millions of users between them. To establish their userbase (so there is alctually soebody to talk too) google must give a good reason for people to switch. And imo this dosent do that (true it is a beta.)

microsoft is intimidated with google.

Nahh google have a long way to go before they can offer such advantages as MS in the area of communications.

eh?

how fast did google overtake yahoo in internet searches
how fast was the take up of gmail over hotmail, forcing MS to increase the email storage?
how hard is MS trying to make a desktop search tool?

you'll be surprise how fast tables can turn

can u show me a product such as communications server that google has?
can you show me a corporate messaging tool that google has?
can u show me a product, that any body makes that is better then the features offered by exchange mail server?
can you show me a product that can do live meetings and integrate seemlessly with all microsoft office applications as you give a presentation to 100,000 people accross the world?

and id still contest there are many more people with hotmail accounts than gmail accounts, and with microsoft offering 250 mb's of space after google's mutli gb's peoples apathetic nature will stop them from changing.

dont get me wrong, competition is great, but i think google still has a long way, if they are trying to encroach on any of microsoft's 'soil'

murf
what are you on about, i never said anything about google having them
all i said was that google will have them easily if they wanted to

I can't believe none of you mentioned Skype (http://www.skype.com/), which is essentially a VoIP phone with many of the features of a landline connection (as opposed to MSN, which is a chat based medium).

In other news, Microsoft has ventured into corporate VoIP: http://www.microsoft.com/office/livecomm/prodinfo/default.mspx .

Note that MS has always put business before private users anyway .. they're more worried about Google creating competition in the corporate market than the home market.

I didn't think to mention Skype cause I assumed we all knew Skype existed. Besides, it's a thread for Google Talk anyway :p

I tried the voice conversation last night and it was awesome. Crystal clear.

Give Google 10 years like Microsoft has and it'll come awfully close.

Very true too. And plus, in the short time that GMail came out, there are most likely more people with gmail accounts than Skype so it's more 'convenient' to just use Google Talk.

VOIP Will be likely added to the next version of MSN Messenger. MS brought a start-up voip company.

For people of our age, perhaps!
