I was wondering whether there was anywhere you can look up your GPA? Or, if not, does anyone know how to calculate it? I used to know, but forgot!

And is it true you get a GPA of 3 by just having credit averages?!

Oh, and I know its early days yet, but I've been looking up honours info: can you not do honours in law?

An easy way to find out is to just go to SES and ask for a copy of your Unofficial Transcript (the Official Transcript costs money, whereas the Unofficial Transcript is free). You'll find your GPA as well as your grades on that.

A GPA of 3 would be equivalent to a Credit average (well, sort of but hard to tell as I'll explain below).

The following points (GPA contribution) are given for certain grades:
HD and D: 4
Cr: 3
P: 2
(PC: 1?)
F: 0

If you do 3cp subjects for all of them, the easiest way is to average your points.

If you do a mixture of 3cp and 4cp subjects, the following is an example.

Consider you do ABCD100 (3cp) and ABCD200 (4cp), and say you get Distinction for ABCD100 and Credit for ABCD200, then you GPA would be calculated as follows:
[3 (cp) * 4 + 4 (cp) * 3] / [ 3 + 4 ] = 3.428

[sum of (number of credit points) * (GPA contribution)] / [sum of (number of credit points)]

go to estudent and copy the form that has your subject units and time. at the bottom it has your gpa, although it is kind of small. :/

does an weighted average mark of 66 mean you have a credit average..or a gpa of 3.0 and above...

i think i asked that b4 but forgot.

macquarie doesn't use wam. so if you had a wam of 65 and a gpa of 2.9, and asked if you could get into a course with a gpa requirement of 3 you wouldn't be allowed to get in.

Find a fresh copy; here's how to fix that.
(Assuming you understand the fill-down command)

1. Go to cell D26, replace it with =SUM(D825)
2. Right Click on row 25 (or any of them above) and click 'insert' until you have enough extra rows for your units.
3. Select the cells where your GPA & WAM show up (ie, on the original form it would be cells E8 & F8 to E25 & F25
4. Press Ctrl+D to run the 'fill down' command and to make all the GPA's and WAMs turn up in their right spots.

...anyone feel free to correct me if I missed something, or doesn't make sense!

Macquarie has a separate GPA for 300-level units. And Macquarie doesn't use WAM, so scrap it. =D

Weighted Average Mark (commonly used in UNSW, almost-never by Macquarie)

It's like an average of your marks except weighted by the number of credit points.

thank you for your valued opinion. however they suck, hence no commision.

btw on a more serious note, what is this about 300 level different GPA shinanigans.

wam is just like an average of your marks, in simple terms. mq doesnt deal with wam, so dont really need to worry.

when you graduate, you get two gpas on the one transcript
- your overall gpa, and
- you 300 level gpa.

ok. and the 300 level gpa's show more your "credentials"? ie- given more weighting?

no, not really... but probably tells your (potential) employer a few things, consider the example of an overall gpa of 2.5 and a 300 level gpa of 3.5.
