i know its probably really obvious but i just wanna be 100% sure.

when calulating your GPA for the full year do u just take ur last semester GPA, and the one u get this sem, and add them then divide by 2?

eg, i got a GPA of 4.6 last sem, if i get a GPA of 4.0 this sem would that bring my GPA down to 4.3?

Yes, your GPA would fall down to 4.3.

After every semester, they just add your total GPA together and divde by the number of semesters that you have done.

GPAs are not calculated in this way. After each semester the grade values of all your subjects are added and then divided by the number of overall subjects you have attempted. In most cases the answer will be the same, but in some cases like when you do a different number of subjects each semester the answers will be different.

Eg.
Semester 1: GPA=4, #of subs = 3
Semester 2: GPA=6, #of subs = 5

Adding both then div by two = (4+6)/2 = 5 GPA
Calculating for each sub = (4*3)+(6*5) = 42 (overall grades)
overall grades / overall subs = 42/8 = 5.25 GPA
