Hey guys,

I don't really get the concept of gradient magnetic fields for MRI scans. WHy are they needed to image a slice in the body?

Any help is most appreciated.

The gradient system employs an alternative linear magnetic field in combination with the internal large static magnetic field.

This in turn creates spatialization and x,y and z plane dimensions from the precessing Hydrogen atoms within the tissue being examined. Additionally, this creates the differing images from within the body constructing a 3D image.
