hi people

normal graphing are easy marks, but i was wondering to what length do we have to contribute to the details?

i mean some..or most require calculus to work out the turning pts and pts of inflexion. please give me some suggestions. i dont wanna lose these easy marks!

so far i include turning pts where its easy to find and the intercepts. is that enough??

depends on what the question asks
most 4u questions give you a graph, or ask you to draw one (2 marks), and then manipulate it. ie take absolute value, sqrt f(x), ln f(x), etc (2 marks each)
you don't have to include turning points or anything else, and only use calculus to help you find the shape of the curve as a last resort
if they give you any points and intercepts on the original graph, include all the corresponding points on the transformed graphs
in 3u and the occasional 4u graph question they will work you through the sketch, asking for turning pts, pts of inflexion, etc in parts

Yeah generally it'll say in the question what details you need to include.

e.g., "showing all asymptotes" isn't asking for turning points, so they're not crucial. But with something like "showing all features" then show as much as you can...

the only time that calculus will be needed in 4unit graphing is to determine ths shape at a point, ie - if it is a slow curve or comes to a point (cusp)

generally when it says something a bit ambigous like: showing all key points, you should use the mark allocation, if its work 2 marks out of a possible hundred, dont do anything that takes more than a line or two of working to figure out, or if you have to really THINK about how you're going to find something, then dont, only obvious stuff.
but obviously if its work 5 marks from a possible 20, you should spend shitloads more time and hence find more.
