Anyway i was wondering how much merit i should give to all this, should i drop anything? as its got me quite terrified :worried:
I can tell you that NONE of that is true.
- English is compulsory, so there is obviously going to be a workload for English, but it will barely impact on your Maths unless you are terrible at organising yourself
- School Certificate is NEVER indicative of your position for the HSC. You can improve dramatically from Year 10, while on other hand you can fail miserably from Year 10. Your results reflect on that fact
- Minimum amount of homework 22 hours a week??!!! That's more than 3 hours of homework per day!!!!! That is only true, if you're like super slow at doing exercises!!!! Dude, I do Extension 2 Maths and I NEVER spend that much time on homework per week. Even with all the average weekly homework of my subjects put together, it hardly goes past 15 hours a week!!!
- 80% in 2 unit Maths is actually like 85% in General Maths. If you check out the stats from the UAC, it's all there in black and white
- You can get into university regardless of how shit your UAI is. As long as you HAVE A UAI, you can qualify for university entrance. With subjects like Maths Extension, you can't possibly fail
If there's one important thing I had learnt in Year 11, it is this. NEVER take advice from a teacher. They only things they specialise in, are the subjects they teach. They do not specialise in careers nor are they specialised in counselling. They will use scare tactics to motivate you to work harder and it is often for THEIR OWN best interests, not necessarily yours, so they won't have to bother putting in the extra effort teaching higher level courses. I can tell you that it is now a rare sight to see committed teachers do everything in your own best interests.
Follow your own interests. It's up to you. It's YOUR HSC. It's YOUR UAI. It's YOUR subjects. It's YOUR committment. It's YOUR life; not somebody else's. YOU decide for yourself and don't let others influence you. That way, you'll learn from your own mistakes, which is better than falling victim to a teacher's mistake....
