I guess attenting a Go8 uni becomes more relevant if we pursue higher degrees (by research) - the quality of your postgrad degree would be directly affected by the uni's research capabilities in your field. For undergrads, its more about teaching quality

How mean, UoW isn't there.

Bitterness aside, is this just for elitism? Is there an actual point besides elitism (like joint ventures in research carried out by all Go8 universities to acheive more information among them)?

Unfortunately, UCLA didn't make it........

Plus, all Ivy league unis are privately owned.

Hmmm, this is all I got so far, to get into what they actually do, we would have to go into the ivy league website, like in go8.

All of the Ivy League universities share some general characteristics: They are among the most prestigious and selective universities in the U.S.; they rank within the top one percent of the world's universities in terms of financial endowment; and they attract top-tier students and faculty. The Ivies are also among the oldest universities in the United States—seven of the eight were founded during America's colonial era.

The Ivy League schools are among the wealthiest private universities the U.S., a status commensurate with their ages and long-standing relationships with the highest echelons of American society. All of the Ivy League schools have endowments over $1 billion and Brown is the only one without a multi-billion dollar endowment.

Harvard, with $19.3 billion in the bank, is the wealthiest university in the world and Yale, with an endowment size of over $11 billion, is the second richest. Harvard owns nearly 19 million ft² (1.8 km²) of property in the Boston area.Columbia is notably the second largest landowner in New York City, which has some of the highest property values in the world.

Elitism sucks. It generally depends on the type of degree you are doing. Does USYD's IT department generally mean it's better than UTS's just because USYD is in Go8 ? Not really.

Hmm if you expand SEAMEO it becomes an even bigger mouthful.

Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture.

Or you could just stick with SEAMEO SEARCA

The College of Rhode Island isn't part of the league. You have 9 instead of 8 unis there. :) And there is another purpose beside 'prestige' and 'elitism' for the formation of the ivy league: originally, these 8 univesities played FOOTBALL against each other. So yes. The ivy league is really a football league. So much for prestige, hey?

hmmm, they are all on the east coast I think. Perhaps there is bias in that list. and Stanford isn't there???

I don't know how you can compare any Australian University to the top 8 ivy leagues.
