i was just wondering about the standards of the pieces you guys will be doing.
i've finished 8th grade piano, done drumming and geetaring for 3 years only.

Well I play Bass and I dont know about standards and stuff coz i dont do grades or anything, I havent really found the pieces i want yet, but I am just looking at songs and bass solos that i could use, Stuff like Incubus, RHCP, Vic Wooten standards like that, but not necessarily grade music.

u might like to try some blues/jazz bassing.
my friend did that last year, she did preedy well.

yeh I do a lot of blues and jazz stuff during my lessons but there more like progressions and stuff to play under chrods and stuff that sound good so its just workin around with the scales and stuff, I will be looking at all different styles though to find pieces with th ebest bass lines out there

consider play with a band guys

not so much piano, but for guitar, bass and drums it can add alot to your performance.

it depends on the song, if it suits it could get you 3 or 4 extra marks even thou you dont play any better.

on the downside if your ensemble stuffs up your mark can go down 1 or 2

i have been working on 2 ensemble/band pieces.
lead guitar - "moonflower" by santana with the band.
drums- drum ensemble with a few auxilary percussions.


i am still wondering how they are gonna mark piano pieces.
i'd think its rather tedious listening to beethoven movements!!

your pieces should around or more than 3 minutes, unless they're really hard and good...

i'm pretty sure there is a five minute limit though...

the whole moonlight sonata goes for around 15 minutes

FECK. can't they just give us more info on that whole what level you should be at in MUSIC 1.
i'm so exhausted from wondering which pieces i should do.

okay is anyone doing any beethoven sonata pieces besides the moonlight sonata?

i'm planning of doing op2. #3. BUT, its supposedly like 20 minutes altogether. and i'm having trouble with the editing and so forth.

you are better then me thats for sure ... i've been playing the guitar for 2yrs and i still suck... ... well ive choosen 2 outa 4 songs... they are blackbird by the beatles... and under the bridge by the red hot chilli peppers... see im so crap... have you got any suggestions?

ok well if this help you guys see the level you need to get to.

i did a composition, a viva, and two performance on guitar.

both in groups, the first one was 'baby im going to leave you' by led zepplin,i did i pretty simple version. and i also did 'where have you been' by real big fish, and i had sax and trumpet instead of vocals.

i also believe i screwed up the aural exam really badly.

for the year i came second (not due to technical skill, but due to the time and effort i put into assignments) in my class of about 12, and i ended up with an assesment mark of 92 and an exam mark of 84 (at least from memory) so i ended up with an 88.

now my class had some people that were really really shit, and some people that were really good. and my school did fairly well in english.

so yeh make of that what you will... i hope it helps.

DABZ: try "moonflower" by Santana. methinks that is a simple song, altho the mood would probably gain you the extra marks. play it with a backing band [NOT a soundtrack], it sounds great with the spanish drumming in the background. i have prepared this song for the HSC, but have decided to scrap it as i could not be bothered with the ensemble, and partly cos i'm too lazy. i have prepared 4 contrasting piano pieces for my audition for the syd con, so i most probably will use 3 of those songs and play my traditionally drummin' with my tutor [which i have been working on for a year now]. if i find any other simple tunes that sound great, will let you know. GOOD LUCK!

SLIP: Yeh, i'm coming equal 1st at school atm [out of 10 music one students], i'm relying on my music marks to bring up my UAI, soo, if i don't get a Band 6 i'd be really disappointed. THANKS.
