There was a past HSC question (1 mark) asking you what the name of H2S207 was. Would you be correct if you said any of the names for this compound, i.e. oleum or pyrosulfuric acid or the others I'm aware of? Is more one correct than the other?

Yes, Oleum is sufficient for a single mark and is preferred for the HSC

Why is oleum preferred though, over 'pyrosulfuric acid'?

I would have said its disulfuric acid.

Technically oleum is a group of compounds with the formula xSO3.H2O or H2SO4.ySO3
